Release Materials

In order to achieve better pests control, scientists have been researching on insect pheromones for years. The artificially synthesized pheromones cannot maintain a certain concentration for a period of time in practical application due to their strong volatility. Therefore, the controlled-release materials and the related technology of insect pheromones have always been research hotspots. The release materials can reduce the decomposition rate of pheromones in the field, and can control the release dose of pheromones in an appropriate range within a certain period of time. The emergence of controlled-release materials makes the utilization rate of insect pheromones higher in the field, and the efficiency of trapping pests is better.


According to the different properties and functions, the release materials are classified into the following four categories.

  • Gel materials: Gel materials formed by the gelators through non-covalent bonding interactions and the internal interactions within the gels give them sustained release properties.
  • Light-controlled materials: Light-controlled materials based on PRPGs are capable of releasing immobilized insect pheromones under light illumination in a specific wavelength range.
  • Micro-nanomaterials: Micro-nanomaterials are constructed from nanostructured units with high specific surface area and high reactivity, enabling good release of pheromones.
  • Organic-inorganic hybrid materials: Organic-inorganic hybrid materials are hybrid materials with tunable interlayer spacing that can be used for controlled release of insect pheromones.
